1884: Pancoast carried out the first successful insemination with donor’s sperm in Filadelfia.
1958: Gemzell published first successful results in the induction of ovulation using human gonadotropin, after achieving the first pregnancy.
1960: Lunenfeld did the same, but using gonadotropin found in the urine of menopausic women.
1958: McLaren achieved the first In Vitro Fecundation (IVF) of a mouse’s egg.
1965: Edwars was able to fertilize human eggs.
1978: Edwars and Steptoe described the IVF (In Vitro Fertilization) and embryo transfer technique, after which Louis Brown was born.
1982: 1st IVF birth in Spain, carried out in Barcelona.
Late 80’s: human urinary follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) is marketed.
1989: Handyside and collaborators (London), successfully used the Pre-implantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD) to detect hereditary diseases.
1992: Palermo and collaborators published first results of births by means of ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection) in Brussels.
Late 90’s: recombining with 100% pureness, the follicle stimulating hormone is marketed. It will gradually replace the one obtained from urinary extracts.
2002: Kuwayama (Japan) First pregnancy from vitrified ovules.
