Prenatal Diagnosis :

After pregnancy is produced it is the MATERNAL-FOETAL MEDICAL SERVICE that is in charge of controlling the gestation.

Human pregnancy is comprised of several phases and each one of them requires strict controls in order to ensure a good outcome and to prevent, as far as possible, the problems which could arise.

In our Centre we carry out monthly controls in patients that have no risk factors. The number of ultrasonographs carried out could be higher if pathologies are diagnosed during the control of the gestation. To eliminate the normal fears of the parents of having a child with a malformation, between the 11th and the 13th week of gestation we request a complete biochemical analysis together with a thorough ultrasonograph. Keeping in mind the age of the mother, in the case of showing any disorder, we recommend an amniocentesis.

Amniocentesis :

This is the technique where a small quantity of amniotic liquid is extracted, in which free foetal cells are found, to be studied in a specialised laboratory in order to rule out genetic anomalies. The aspiration is done by the introduction of a needle into the interior of the womb through the abdominal wall. It is advisable to do this between the 15th and 16th week of gestation and for the patient to rest for two days after the extraction.

High definition ultrasonography :

This is carried out between weeks 18 and 22. Its main purpose is to rule out malformation defects of the foetus. (Photo Eco 2D).
